Configuring your Pocket PC 2002/2003

*NOTE: The following instructions have been tested for Administrative accounts only for Pocket PC 2002 and 2003. Other mobile devices using alterative Email clients and interfaces may be different. Please check with your mobile device retailer to see if this option is available for your device. This information is available at http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/pocket_email.mspx


On Your Desktop Using ActiveSync

1. Open ActiveSync.
2. Select Options.
3. Check Enable synchronization with a server.
4. Click the Configure button.
5. Select the items you want to synchronize.
6. Click the Connection… button to change connection information for your server.
7. Enter your server name.
8. Select this server uses an SSL connection if needed. Without this, your password and personal data may be at risk.
9. Enter your User name, Password, and Domain.
10. Select Save Password if you want to store the Password.
11. Click the OK button.

On Your Device Using ActiveSync

1. If the device is connected to your desktop computer, disconnect it.
2. Tap Start.
3. Tap Programs > ActiveSync.
4. Tap Tools.
5. Select Options…
6. Type in the name of your Exchange Server.
7. Under Sync these items, select the items you want to sync.
8. Select this server uses an SSL connection if needed. Without this, your password and personal data may be at risk.
9. Tap Options…
10. If blank or incorrect, enter your User name, Password, and Domain.
11. Select Save Password if you want to store this information on your device.
12. Tap the Rules tab to set up syncing rules.
13. Tap OK.

Set up IMAP Email service for Pocket PC 2003
1. Open the Inbox by tapping the envelope icon next to No unread messages

2. To setup Email, select Tools from the bottom menu, and Options... from the pop-up list



3. When the Options window appears, select the New... button 4. On the first Email Setup window, enter your Email address in the space provided, then tap the Next button



5. On the second Email Setup screen, tap the Skip button, or tap Next regardless of the outcome of the auto configuration



6. On the third Email Setup screen enter your name in the space provided. Then type in your user name in the field titled User name. Your user name is everything leading up to, but not including the @admin.fsu.edu part of your Email address. For example, if your Email address is test_account@admin.fsu.edu, you would enter test_account as your User name. In the Password field, enter in your Email account password. If you do not wish to enter your password every time you open your client, check 'Save Password'.


7. On the fourth Email Setup screen, select IMAP as the Service type:. In the Name: field, enter a descriptive name for this Email account. Once completed, tap Next to continue.


8. On the final Email Setup screen, enter admin2k.fsu.edu as the Incoming mail server, Admin2k.fsu.edu as the Outgoing mail server and FSU.EDU as the Domain. Tap the Finish button when you are done.


9. You have now completed setting up your Pocket PC 2002 device for Email. Click the OK button at the top of the options window to begin sending and receiving Email.


Set up IMAP Email service for Pocket PC 2002


1. Tap Services > New Service...
2. Enter the full Email address for the account.
3. Tap Next.
4. The Auto configuration manager will attempt to set up the new service.
5. If your Pocket PC is not connected to the internet, tap Skip.
6. Tap Next.
7. Enter your name in the field.
8. Enter the Password for your account.
9. Select the Save password check box to store your password on the device.
10. Tap Next.
11. Select IMAP4 as your Service type.
12. Name the service something easy to remember.
13. Tap Next.
14. If the Incoming mail field is blank or incorrect, enter the correct IMAP4 server name admin2k.fsu.edu
15. If the Outgoing mail field is blank or incorrect, enter your SMTP server name admin2k.fsu.edu in the Outgoing mail field.
16. If you are connecting to an Exchange server, enter your Domain if necessary, otherwise leave it blank.
17. Tap Options.
18. Check "Check for new messages every [ ] minute(s)" for your Pocket PC to check for mail at that interval as long as it is connected (see important tips above).
19. Check "Outgoing Email server requires authentication" if your SMTP server requires your user name and password (most do these days – you may not be able to send Email if this is not checked).
20. Select a connection type if your account requires a special network or internet connection other than your default.
21. Tap Next.
22. Selecting Get full copy of messages will attempt to download all Email messages.
23. Selecting Get message headers only will only download the subject, From, and To fields typically seen at the top of a message.
24. Check "Include [ ] k" to download a portion of your messages with the headers. The larger the number, the more of your message will be downloaded.
25. Select "When getting full copy, get attachments" to download attachments with your Email messages.
26. Check "Only if smaller than [ ] K" to define a limit to the attachment size.
27. Tap Next.
28. Check "Only display messages from the last [ ] days" to only show recent messages.
29. Tap Finish.
